technology
one thing i’m probably going to do before i leave is get some cool technology for my time on the road (i’ll invest over $1500 to $2000).
i’ve decided i’ll probably get:
- a portable gps positioning device (approx $100)
- a UMPC or similar computer (possibly an epson storage device) (approx $800) i just bought a kohjinsha umpc, which is going to save me $800 off my expenses for this trip! nifty!
- an ipod shuffle (approx $80)
- a new lens (18-200mm) for my camera (approx $700)
- a waterproof point and shoot camera (for fun and convenience) (approx $250)
basically, i want to carry some decent tech while i’m away. of course, charging shit will be an issue … as will carrying necessary cables, etc … but that’s one of the perils of travel and technology
my D200 battery pack takes AA batteries … if i make sure my gps devise and my point and shoot also take AA batteries, that will make life easier (less cables!!) … i might consider a charger, but they’re heavy little fuckers, and i don’t really want to worry about the extra weight.
i’ve looked into the whole ‘camera bag’ thing, and it seems that the lowepro slingbag 300 is about the best option (for now) it’s got enough room for all my gear, but is small and light. it’s pretty much a backpack, with a single ’sling’ strap, meaning i can access gear while i’m wearing it. the best part is that it seems to be mostly for camera gear (body and 4 – 5 lenses). there’s only a small setion at the top for miscellaneous gear, which suits me perfectly.
the bag is about $100 …
