socceroos continue good form

the socceroos have continued their good run of form with an imporant 2–1 win against oman last night.

the australians traveled to oman on the back of a 1–0 victory, but looked to be in trouble after an early red card and penalty. oman missed the penalty, but scored the rebound, giving them the lead. the socceroos were down to 10 men, but held off oman’s attacks. schwarzer was in fine form, making good saves to deny oman a crucial second goal.

australia responded with their own attacks, luke wiltshire equalising with his first international goal just before half time.

both teams had chances in the second half. the socceroos again waiting until late before claiming all three points. carney made a good run and a cross to emerton who tucked the ball away, sealing the win.

it was a solid performance for the socceroos, especially in defense, holding out oman’s fast attack. australia now lead their asian qualifier group and are on track to qualify for the asian cup.

in other news, new zealand snuck past bahrain with a 1–0 win which was enough to seal their spot in the 2012 world cup. this will be new zealand’s second only appearance in the world cup and the first time when both australia and new zealand have been able to feature in the same world cup.
