in the centre of seoul, one of the most crowded cities in the world, an entire suburb is abandoned. it’s completely mindblowing that hundreds of houses, from single storey to multi-storey apartment buildings, are in ruins. land in seoul is at a premium and it’s likely that these half destroyed and unliveable houses are going to be completely torn down and replaced with something more modern … however, i’ve been told, that the area has been deserted for well over a year or two (i found some calendars that were from 2009).
some friends and i decided to go wandering around and take photos. nobody was around and we weren’t bothered … well, it’s not exactly true that the area was totally deserted. we did see one car drive down a narrow street. a few old men also wandered by and both the christian church and buddhist temple in the neighbourhood were open and inhabited.
an old man wanders by … i had no idea why he was there
trash and broken glass everywhere
somebody planned on learning english … on cassette!
an abandoned police box … a pretty cool find
the boys (dylan and colin) messing around with some photography gear
self portrait in a mirror (i was surprised it wasn’t already broken)
going for a wander around a church we found. it was open, but obviously used on a regular basis.
a final shot of colin blending in with the scenery
all photos were taken using a nikon d200 and a leica m6.
