lady in the water by toni frissell, taken in weeki wachee springs in florida america, in 1947. it’s an amazing image … the lake is so clear! the springs have an underwater viewing area, behind glass, which is how the photo was taken. the tourist attraction is apparently still there. the theme of the attraction was the weeki wachee mermaids; young women swimming around in the lake, which people watched through the glass. since the lake is a spring, the water is always crystal clear.
a very cool, morbid and impressive photo … considering it was taken exactly 70 years ago. i think it has just become my favourite vintage photograph. i’m going to promise myself to try and recreate this one day!
