i bought myself a point and shoot camera - the olympus 1030 - which is waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof. it’s intended to be a backup to my main camera. the reason i chose the olympus is because of its waterproof abilities. it can go where most other cameras cannot … which should allow me to get some interesting photos. overall the image quality isn’t the best, but it’s a trade-off for practicality. i’m happy with the camera though and it should earn its keep over the next few years.
this photo was taken with the olympus. it’s a reflection in the glass at technomart in gangbyon. you can see me in the photo and in the background is seoul’s han river and olympic bridge … as well as an incredibly beautiful day, complete with a clear blue sky.

i didn’t spend the whole weekend on an island, but yesterday i did go to nami island for a look around. actually, i’m surprised that i’d never heard of nami island before. it’s become quite famous amongst koreans, partly because of the drama that was filmed there called ‘winter sonata’. anyway, it’s a small island in the middle of the river near cheun cheon. there’s not very much to do, but i did enjoy walking around the island (took about an hour) and taking photos … however, i forgot to take my leica out of my bag, so i have no b&w shots!
after nami island, i headed to another near by area and stayed the night. the next morning i went to a place called ‘morning calm’. it was quite calm … but actually it was just a big flower and botanical garden. some of the features were nice and it was fun to walk around, but i didn’t really get many shots i liked. i headed back to seoul this afternoon.
nami island was pretty cool, and i’ve decided to go back there in winter. when there is some snow on the ground, i think the island would be quite beautiful. so i’m keen to have another crack at photographing it.
i’m looking forward to a much needed rest day tomorrow. my stomach has been playing up on me, and after eating spicy chicken yesterday, i’ve not been feeling the best.

got a hella busy weekend coming up … tonight i’m trying to finish angie’s photos (which i’m 3 weeks behind on) and update natalya’s site (which i’m months behind on)
ryan gets here in the morning. we’re gonna check out the magnum photography exhibition, go to cheungmuro and look around, then head to dongjak and do some photography on the bridge. the plan is to photograph the han river at sunset (here’s hoping for clear weather). the view from the bridge is probably the best location in korea. we can see the sunset, the han river, lots of buildings and a motorway on the right, and the 63 building on the left.
however, tonight’s work is progressing well. i’ve upgraded my site and fixed the permalink error. i’m running wordpress 2.6.1 which has a few error fixes from the wordpress 2.6 release. i also fixed some small cosmetic issues and uploaded a different smilie pack
i’m a bit hungry, so i might head out soon and get some food. actually, i’ve been a good boy lately. my diet has consisted of kimbab (lots), bibimbab, ramyeon, neng myon and dongass. it’s been a 95% korean diet … with the occasional sandwich thrown in … usually on the way to work.
but, i have beer … so i’ll grab a snack and have a few drinks while i do some editing.
oh, i almost forgot, i’ve started listening to last.fm. these days my regular music has been getting a bit dull, and i’m tired of changing playlists. so i figured it’s time to explore and find some new music … it’s working out well.
